Andy Warhol Exhibit Field Trip

We are going to go on a field trip to the Andy Warhol Exhibit at the Johnson Cultural Arts Center downtown on Wednesday, October 8. I am so excited about this, it is such a wonderful show!

We will need enough drivers for both 4th grade classes (38 kids). The office must have a copy of any driver's license and insurance. The drivers will need to meet at school at 9:00am on the 8th.

After we get loaded into cars, we will then go to Murphree Park for Break (your child can bring break from home or buy something from the cafetorium before class starts).

After we have break, we will go to the exhibit. Our museum time is from 10:00am - 11:00am, then after the museum we will have a pizza picnic on the square. You will need to send $1 and a drink for lunch.

Please let me know ASAP if you can help us by driving. Thanks!

Reading VOCAB

As you know, Reading tests are on Thursdays. Everyone usually does very well on the story and notes comprehension, but we are having some trouble with VOCAB. I have posted the vocab under announcements - to help you study at home. We write the definitions on Monday, but I know things can be misplaced throughout the week. :). Most of the definitions are in the back of the book, but we do sometimes have to use a dictionary. VOCAB is due on Thursday before we take the test, as well as the Reading notes and "Think About It". Everyone need to make sure they are studing VOCAB as it is a major part of each Reading Test.

Reading - Literature Circles

As well use our reading textbooks, I plan for our class to participate in about eight Literature Circles this year. Our Literature Circles will be used to get the students excited about reading with the help from their classmates, this is NOT a major grade. So you know what to expect here are some circle guidelines:
For each circle the class will be divided into teams of 6 students and each team will read a different book. (The teams will change for every circle.)
The team will read a book together over 2-3 weeks, they will be given “circle time” during reading every day.
The circles will end with a team presentation. The presentation will be something the students put together during their circle time that will give the other students in the class an overview of their book.

Grandparrent's Day

Grandparent's Day is October 3rd and the program will begin at 9:30am for grandparents or special visitor. Both 4th grade classes will participate.

Addresses and Pen-Pals

We are working on a Unit on Letters/Envelopes in Language - It is VERY important that your child knows their ADDRESS! This is also needed for their Pen-Pal Letters as they need to write their address in the heading of their friendly letters. Please work at home with them this!!!

Also, for Pen-Pals I have told the kids that they may use their "School Addresses" for the envelopes (or outside of letter, they do not have to put their letter in an envelope).
"School Address" Example:

Georgia Adams
1st Dest, 4th Row
Mrs. Robison's Room

Or something similiar - They can have fun with this!

PS Thanks Georgia for always being my example! :)

Literature Circle 2

This Monday we will start our 2nd Literature Circle. I think the whole class has really enjoyed this activity and is really into reading! I worked with the everyone in the Library Wednesday to make sure that they have their books for Monday, and I am pretty sure we all do.
